What Happens During A Root Canal?
During a root canal procedure, your dentist will create a small opening in your tooth to access the inside, called the pulp chamber. The nerve and pulp are removed from the pulp chamber, the area inside of the tooth. The inside of the tooth is then thoroughly cleaned and sealed to avoid future infection. Without treatment, the gum tissue surrounding the tooth may become infected, leading to swelling, tenderness, or a painful abscess.
